Nutrition Coaching: Quick Start Resources Guide

Okay, if you are reading this, you are either embarking on the journey to your best body and mind...or serisouly considering it. The program is straightforward, but there are some required resources and I have listed them below!


1. MyFitnessPal App


This one is easy. If you are on iOS or Android, head over to download the MyFitnessPal App. Which looks like the picture below.

The name of the game is tracking, and we use MyFitPal to track EVERYTHING we eat. You will need an account, but you DO NOT NEED the paid version. Many of us have opted for this, as it adds a few useful features, but it is NOT REQUIRED. The standard app is fine.


If you haven't used the app, it has a fairly robust database and also has a feature to scan UPCs. This means that if you eat - for example - a bag of baked chips, you can scan the bag and all the information is added to your log....NIFTY!


Other stuff can be searched (make sure to use a verified listing) or manually input. Gone are the days of writing down what we eat in notebooks and using calorie count books to do the math (Yes....I used to do this). When people tell me "it's too difficult to track" I tend to roll my eyes knowing that this (and other apps) exist.


The MAIN reason for using MyFitPal is that it completely syncs with TrueCoach, my coaching platform...which happens to be discussed next!



3. TrueCoach Account - Setting up your TrueCoach account is pretty straightforward. You will recieve in initation from me and you can begin to fill out your personall information. I will also assign you metrics that you can fill out here, as the app tracks and graphs all of your weight and measurement data.


Please add your payment information to the TrueCoach account when prompted. Once I am notified of your payment information, I will put you on the plan we have agreed on, your card will be charged, and we are off to the races! Please note that this billing is recurring and will automatically post payment on the same day of each month (i.e if you started on the 10th, you will be charged on the 10th of each month).


IMPORTANT NOTE: Please sync your MyFitnessPal to your TrueCoach account (CLICK HERE for instructions on how to do that). You MUST have a MyFitPal account to do this, which is why the MyFitnessPal information was Step 1.



4. Food Scale - Really, ANY scale will do, but a digital one that can be shifted between grams and ounces is ideal. Measuring by the gram usually yields the most precise results.


This one, by Amazon Basics is a really good choice for a cheap, "bang for the buck" scale. It does what you need it to do and won't kill the wallet.

This one, by OXO is a bit on the higher end but offers a detachable face and is easier to clean.

Finally, this portable scale by Joseph Joseph is just the bomb. Vanessa and I have this one and you may have heard us ranting about how cool it is.

At the end of the day, choose whatever option fits your budget and needs.


3. Measuring tape - Part of the process is taking measurements of various body girths. The best way to do this is with a self-tensioning tape.


I definitly recommend the MyoTape Body Measuring Tape, as it is more durable than other brands, which I have found to stretch or break after a few months.
